OATI Market Transformation Expert to Share Vision of Future Utility Operations at Conference

Open Access Technology International, Inc. (OATI), to send Dr. Farrokh Rahimi to expand attendees’ knowledge of distributed energy resource (DER) interconnection implications and opportunities at a special session devoted to the topic at the 2016 IEEE PES T&D Conference in Dallas, Texas.

Minneapolis: April 27, 2016 – OATI is pleased to announce its utility market transformation and design expert, Dr. Farrokh Rahimi, will participate in a special panel session devoted to the implications, challenges, and opportunities presented by the rapid proliferation of DER interconnections and what this means to traditional utility operations at the upcoming 2016 IEEE PES T&D Conference & Exposition in Dallas, Texas. The conference runs from May 02 – 05, 2016.

“The management of DERs is becoming the central issue confronting distribution utilities,” said Dr. Rahimi. “The ramifications and impacts of high penetrations of DER interconnections on the reliability, safety, and operation of the grid will require tools to “see” and manage conditions in near real-time from transmission level substations to customer side of the meter assets at grid-edge. Accompanying this is the need for a change in the way utilities perceive and react to DERs so that they may reap the benefits of this new utility model.”

The conference brings together hundreds of exhibitors and thousands of utility professionals in a manner that fosters learning, sharing, and growing both organizationally and professionally.

Dr. Rahimi will be part of Super Session 03, Grid of the Future: Design and Operation, focused on the effects of DER interconnection on the direction and management of utility grid operations in the future. The session is scheduled for Wednesday, May 04, 2016 from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM.
